Histamine plays a key role in your body’s inflammatory response.
I have learnt that my allergies/intolerances (and those of other people) get much worse when eating inflammatory foods such as dairy, gluten and sugar/simple carbs. The moment I touch cheese, I get itchy skin, brain fog, fatigue and bloating, and my histamine levels are high. The more I eat these foods, the worse my allergies become. An anti-inflammatory diet is crucial for lowering histamine levels and healing your thyroid, as it helps convert T3 to T4.
You’d be amazed at how well you will feel after two weeks of cutting out gluten, dairy and sugars. Your mood will improve, your brain will work better, you will sleep better, you will have more energy and you will be less bloated. Some people will benefit more than others, as we are all different, especially when it comes to histamine.
The key is a low-histamine, anti-inflammatory diet.
Fresh food, preferably organic, with few additives and that is unprocessed, not aged, not canned, not fermented, not smoked and not overcooked.
Some of the best anti-inflammatory and low-histamine foods are rucola salad, red onions, garlic, goat’s cheese, goat’s milk, berries (especially frozen blueberries, which are high in anti-inflammatories), and salmon, as it’s high in omega-3. I am lucky to enjoy goat’s products.;-)
Tip: One of my favourite snacks for satisfying cravings and giving me energy before a workout is a shake made from mixed berries, banana, freeze-dried goat’s milk, fibre and freshly milled flaxseed.
