Here I was, searching for sugar replacement as artificial ones arent healthly either when I came across this little round fruit with an incredible story – and even more incredible health benefits. Yes its way more than just a sweetener. With real science behind it, used by Buddhist monks for centuries, and now finally getting the recognition it deserves in the West.
Monk fruit gets its name from the Buddhist monks called the Luo Han who first cultivated it nearly 800 years ago during the Tang Dynasty (618-907 AD). These monks, known as Arhats in India and Luo Han in China, were seeking enlightenment in the misty mountains of Guilin in southern China. As they meditated in this serene environment, they discovered a small, round fruit that they prized for both its incredible sweetness and healing properties. lakanto+1
